Microsoft SideWinder X5
The X5 isn't much different than the original Sidewinder, to be honest. There have been a few material changes and a couple things dropped from the original, but for the most part its the same mouse. However, the changes do allow the X5 to go for cheaper than the original model, so there is that. You could call it the bargain Sidewinder, I suppose.
So what'd they change? They changed the thumb buttons and scroll wheel to plastic (they were metal). They got rid of the LCD screen (guess no one but me find it interesting?). The ability to switch through your dpi settings on the fly is still present, of course, but you can no longer adjust the weight of the mouse.
When it comes down to it, its pretty odd to release a new mouse that is less than its predecessor. Still, though the Sidewinder X5 isn't bad, its actually quite good; it just loses a few things that the previous model has (as we already mentioned). The feel of the mouse remains the same, so some of you might like it while others might hate it, and no way to say which is which until you lay hands on it. Best to hit a store and feel it out before buying it online (to save money, of course).
