Microsoft SideWinder

The Sidewinder is Microsoft's best available type of gaming mouse. This review focuses on the original model as opposed to later ones in the series. The original has on the fly dpi switching with 3 buttons, from which you can switch between 2000, 800, and 400 dpi. You can also customize these settings using software if you so desire, but these presets are pretty good out of the box.

The mouse has an LCD display that shows its macro recording icons in addition to its current dpi settings, and its 5 programmable buttons will make any gamer jump for joy. As with many of today's gaming mice, it has weights so that you can adjust how heavy or light you desire your mouse to be.

If you're a fan of FPS then this mouse will definitely pique your interest. It has a "quick turn" button that you can assign, and what this does is turn you around 180 degrees so you can check behind you for enemies or just flee quickly from large numbers. All in all, a very useful little trick to have, and kudos to Microsoft for including it.

All said, its a fairly good, long lasting gaming mouse if you're in need of one. Its unique design seems to irritate some and cause ecstasy in others, so that's definitely something to consider. If the look intrigues you, pick it up and give it a test run. If it makes you cringe, then you'll likely not find it to be very comfortable.
